About Us
The Drop‑Off Fuel Initiative is a student‑led environmental movement designed to turn sustainability from a one‑time activity into a daily habit. The project addresses a major gap in schools: while climate change is widely discussed, students rarely get hands‑on opportunities to practice meaningful environmental education. Inspired by real biocircular‑economy models ,such as McDonald’s conversion of used cooking oil (UCO) into biodiesel ,the initiative brings this concept to the school level.
Students collect household UCO using reusable pouches and deposit it at school, where it is transferred to a partner biofuel plant. This simple, low‑cost and safe model reduces carbon emissions, prevents water contamination, and builds long‑term environmental habits among youth while rewarding them academic credits.Government and corporate initiative to collect household UCO has failed due to high cost and low awareness.
Since launch in GEMS Modern Academy in 2024, the initiative has engaged over 1,000 students and households, achieving an average of 1.5 litres of UCO collected per household each month. To expand global impact, a digital toolkit was created to help schools worldwide replicate the model. The project demonstrates how student leadership, community engagement, and practical action can drive real environmental change.
